Game day: Scramblers vs Strikers   Leave a comment

Mateo and SkylerOuch!

The Fall season opened with a show down with the u-7 DP Strikers.  I think the strikers ate their Wheaties. It was a tattooing. Let’s just say the referee should have given us a safe word.  Anyway all the Scramblers played hard and never gave up. Next week will surely be better when the Superkidz face off against El Scram. Check the Fall 2010 Scramblers gallery for this week’s shots.

Summer Trip   Leave a comment

Stay off the walls.

Big summer trip. Four Corners, Aztec Ruins, Southern CO, Durango. It’s been 12 years since we last visited Mesa Verde and discovered the ancesteral puebloans. I wondered if the high desert cliff houses would still hold some mystery for us within the alcoves and ancient brick and canyon trails. It was even better this time around with Henry. Rode the narrow gauge train from Durango to Silverton. I’m still picking coal cinders out of  my hair and ears, as if they are some sort of trip souvenir. Floated the Rio de las Animas. Check Hank’s Summer 2010 Gallery for lovely pics of Henry’s flight to the four corners. Hope to get the pics all up this week.

Someone reminded me of the write up in the NMSU Research Mag. I have to learn how to take photos like that.

Happy St. Mother’s Day   Leave a comment

You have, or have had, a mother.  Today give her a break.  Maybe even do a little dance for her. And Grandma too. Sorry for the barely watchable, overexposed video. I’m a son, not a cinematographer.

Cumpleaños Numero Six…   Leave a comment

More cupcakes, garcon.…Saturday, for The Notorious H.P.D., as well as Numero Whatever for Dapper Dan! Today’s birthday schedule includes climbing camp, Scramblers vs Li’l Sting Rays, and the big bowling alley birthday bash at Ten Pin. Grandma/pa D in town too. If i’m not drinking by noon, something’s wrong.

Check the fancy #6 birthday gallery for photo updates of Mr. Fabulous throughout the day.

Update, 1:15 pm – Scramblers draw 7 – 7 with Li’l Sting Rays. A knock down drag-out, with Henry and Carlo doing some scoring. Skyler too.  Missed Mateo out there.  Assistant coach got hot about some Stingrays flying the elbows, but otherwise, a fun suspenseful game. Picked up some Kuhn Farms preserves at the Farmers Market for Grandma.

Update, 4:20 pm – Serious sensory over-stimulus at H’s bowling alley birthday party.   Wearing my chaco sandals while 5 year olds sling bowling balls in random directions was not smart.  Good white cake from Si.  Bad-piped in MOR rock from the sound system. I think Ursula was at the top of the scorecard. Got a bag of fresh red and purple radishes from Carlo’s organic garden. Henry second leg of gift opening starts now.

Update, 5:50 pm – For the last 90 minutes, Grandpa D is trying to put together a model airplane, the most complex part being a rubber band.  I Found some extra Fat Tire amber ale cans i had hidden in a cooler in the garage.

Gameday: Scram vs SFC 2004   Leave a comment

Carlo vs SFC 2004Scrambleritos drop a close one

SFC was all over The Scram early but Carlo started picking away at the lead with several strikes. H had a well-timed goal to tie it in the second half. In the end, SFC was a little too strong, and at the final whistle is was 5 – 4 SFC. A great game to watch, especially for the Pierards as they were in town to help get the celebration of H’s sixth birthday started. All the scramblers played really well and have learned the game in such a short time. Even H’s uniform is fitting him now.  This was originally scheduled as the last game of the season, so everyone went to Matteo’s after the game for a cook-out and water cannon battles in the pool. Stay tuned for birthday #6 and the last game against the Li’l Sting Rays.

Game Day: Cubs Vs Scramblers   Leave a comment

Scramblers lost a close one to the Cubs, 8-7.  Cubs looked pretty good with only three players and no subs.  Scram came back to tie it twice, but the Cubs, like Duke, had too much scoring power.  Many of the scramblers had goalassos, and H sprinted way back to clear a ball off the line. I think he enjoys defending more than scoring.

Anyhow, more Scramlets pics in the Scramblers gallery. Cindy has taken over shooting responsibilities now, so blame her for all the blurry, underexposed, lopsided pics of the referee’s backside.
