http://theseconddisc.com   Today’s the day to buy an LP someplace other than at amazon.com (H’s birthday is may 1). Here’s a gift idea:
http://theseconddisc.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/buck-owens_coloring-book.jpg. Hopefully this can be found someplace besides the Internet.
Bioblitz is a 24-hour inventory of species in Tucson’s Saguaro National Park. Two things are really great about the idea:
1) Scientists and researchers from all over the place come to inventory living stuff in the desert,
2) Wannabe science amateurs like ourselves get to participate and learn about biodiversity.
Bioblitz is sort of my dream of the outdoor desert classroom, where anyone who wants can come and participate, learn about identifying species and scientific methods. All the scientists were really open and happy to discuss what they were up and it was a lot of fun hiking around in the dark looking for bio-flouroescing centruroides (bark scorpions for you non arachnid pros).
Had much fun rambling around in the Sonoran Dez and camping in Saguaro. Also got to see some former Las Cruces pals which was great. We miss having good friends in town. Anyways, check out the Fall gallery for more pics of Young Hankenstein.

Henry named this post, I cannot claim something so cliché. Of all the pictures we took, he likes this unexciting sea gull the best. Plenty more boring vacation pics in H’s Summer 2011 Gallery. Many of which were taken at the wonderful Getty Museum in LA. If you’re into 15th – 17th century middle and Northern European glass and ceramics, this is the place. We also narrowly avoided the 405 freeway construction closing, known on the interwebs as carmageddon (sp?).
Had fun– spent time with Uncle Steve, bought fresh dates, cursed traffic, and failed in an attempt to see the Blasters at a reunion show at Joe’s Great American Bar & Grill on the 4th of July (Steve had to work early the next morning). Steve should remember to send me the pics he took of Ray Campi and the Jennifer Keith Quintet. Soon.
is seven now. From the looks of it he’s not too happy about it. Probably at the age now where he just doesn’t want to be reminded of that old ticking clock. Don’t get him anything, and no dad-gum surprise parties. Just let him sleep in and maybe some socks or underwear if he needs ’em.
Thanks to all the parents and kids who made his day such great one. Had a fun time with The Grandparents P too. And check out the numero Siete gallery for some pics of the day. Oh and a happy birthday as well to Uncle Dan, another over-the-hill old fart.
