Did another one of those “drive 2 hours to the middle of nowhere, turn left and go another hour” outings to Monticello Box, a small, scenic slot canyon not really near anything, except maybe some beryllium and cattle. About 30 minutes into the slog, with H on my shoulders, we accidentally flushed a full grown mountain lion out of some waist high brush near the creek bank. He or she definitely had no interest in us, but it was a pretty exciting encounter nonetheless.  I wondered if it had come all the way from the San Mateo range looking for a meal.
